In modern perception, law and poetry seem to occupy opposing poles, but a closer examination of history reveals a significant deviation from this notion. In ancient times, law and poetry shared a common origin,as nearly all early laws of nations or peoples were composed as solemn, serious poetry. Some great poets were even regarded as"unacknowledged legislators".During the early modern period, many poets were students who escaped from law schools, making law an enduring theme in poetry. However, with the increasing specialization of modern society, law and poetry began to diverge, leading to a lack of aesthetic sensibility and humanistic care in the legal field. To address the drawbacks caused by rejecting poetry,a space should be reserved for poetry within the domain of law.Although the relationship between law and poetry has not been a focus of Chinese scholars,it remains an important topic in the history of Chinese law, with its own unique characteristics.
