On the Relationship between the British Consul in Tengyueh Archibald Rose and the"McMahon Line"
Archibald Rose was an active British diplomat and intelligence officer in the southwest of China during the Late Qing Dynasty.As a British Consul in Tengyueh,he assisted the British army in invading the undelimited frontier of the northern section between Yunnan and Burma.As a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society,he firstly published articles and compiled maps to draw the Tawang area into India;as"a member of the(British)Chinese Consular Service",he participated the negotiation of the Simla Conference.Archibald Rose'case reflects the symbiotic relationship between Sino-Burmese boundary and Sino-Indian boundary issues,the close relationship and cooperation between British diplomats in China and the Indian colonial officials,and the integration of colonial knowledge and colonial expansion.
