Civil-Military Struggle or Factional Struggle:Research on the Anti-war Argument Conserning Tangut in the Early Song Dynasty
The Anti-war Argument in the Song Dynasty is always considered as the product of civil oriention of Song government,exalting the civil officials at the expense of the military.However,the main persernel of the two sides involving in the Anti-war Argument Conserning Tangut were civil officials.The paper discusses the differences between both sides,especially on the link between the argument and the actions on reinforcing Lingzhou(灵州),as well as the Jingshi(进士)groups in 980.In a word,factional struggle was the nature of the argument that the party groups led by Li Hang(李沆)suppressed on that led by Zhang Qixian(张齐贤),which terribly delayed rescuing Lingzhou.This shows factional struggle can not be neglected for studying the politics of Song Dynasty.
