Monthly Animal-feed Balance Model for the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau
To improve current feed-animal balance research methods in China,a representative model for the Qinghai-Tibet plateau was set, taking alpine meadow in Tianzhu as a case study. The results suggested that the present overgrazing rate in Tianzhu was 42.9% ; there was an annual grass drv matter deficit of 244.45 × 106 kg and crude protein deficit of 12.22 × 106 kg to meet livestock demands. The current condition of monthly feed-animal balance was that grassland can satisfy the demand of livestock from June to October. In November, grass dry matter supply wanes, although crude protein had a deficit from December until the next May.To satisfy the demands of all livestock,it was estimated that 789.04ha of alfalfa and 9708.52ha oats must be planted, whilst 138.94× 106 kg of barley or rape straw must be imported from external sources to feed all livestock. At present, refinement of the inter-month characteristics in the feed-animal balance model reduced deviation, which provides an annual standard to improve the supply of animal demand in Tianzhu.
