Understanding Carex:Recent Advancements in Biological Research
Carex(Cyperaceae)is a vast genus, representing one of the largest within angiosperms. These sedges exhibit remarkable ecological breadth, colonizing diverse habitats including forests, forest margins, wetlands, and meadows. Many Carex species possess aesthetically pleasing morphologies and exceptional stress tolerance.Consequently, they play crucial roles in landscape design,saline-alkali land revegetation, and wetland restoration efforts. This growing appreciation has spurred a surge in scientific interest in recent years.Building upon this momentum, the present research offered a comprehensive review of Carex research across three key aspects:Systematic classification, stress resistance, and cultiva-tion and reproduction techniques. We summarized current literature on these themes, highlighting the dis-covery of novel species, the influence of abiotic factors, and the characteristics of various breeding and con-servation methods.Furthermore,we proposed promising avenues for future research. This review aims to establish a theoretical foundation for the application of Carex in landscaping and ecological restoration,pro-viding valuable insights for future investigations into stress resistance mechanism, seed germination, and rapid propagation techniques.
