Effects of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Addition on Medicinal Plant Community Characteristics in the Hulunbuir Meadow Steppe
Meadow steppes are a vital resource for medicinal plants in China, but their diversity faces threats from anthropogenic activities and global change. This study investigated the effects of continuous, controlled nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)additions on community characteristics of medicinal plants in the Hulunbuir meadow steppe. The results showed that:(1)N addition significantly decreased, while P addition significantly increased, the coverage and importance value of leguminous medicinal plants.(2)N addition significantly reduced the diversity of both leguminous and other medicinal plants.Conversely,P addition significantly increased the diversity of leguminous medicinal plants.Notably, there was no signifi-cant interaction effects of N and P addition and year on the species diversity of either medicinal plant group.(3)Three years of nutrient addition did not significantly affect the diversity of medicinal plant of Composi-tae family.(4)Co-addition of N and P significantly reduced the importance value and diversity of other medicinal plant group. In conclusion, the responses of different medicinal plant groups to N and P addition were relatively independent.P fertilization appears beneficial for the conservation of leguminous medicinal plants in meadow steppes, while co-addition of N and P fertilizer may decrease the diversity of other medici-nal plants.
