Objective Exploring the effects of Ginkgo biloba extract(GBE)on cognitive function and hippocampal inflammatory factors in sepsis associated encephalopathy(SAE)mice. Methods C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into four groups included sham surgery group(Sham group),SAE model group(SAE group),Ginkgo biloba extract group.(GBE+SAE group),and ceftriaxone sodium group(CS+SAE group)by using random number table method, with 12 mice in each group.SAE models were established through cecal ligation and puncture(CLP).Behavioral tests including open field test, novel object recognition test, and Y-maze spontaneous alternation test were conducted on mice in each group, followed by sample collection.Immunohistochemistry was performed to assess the expression of Bax and Bcl-2 in the hippocampus, while ELISA was employed to measure the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 expression. Results SAE group mice showed cognitive impairment with increased hippocampal Bax and decreased Bcl-2 expression, alongside elevated TNF-α and IL-6 levels.GBE intervention downregulated hippocampal Bax,upregulated Bcl-2 expression, and reduced TNF-α and IL-6 levels. Conclusion GBE improves cognitive dysfunction in SAE mice, likely by inhibiting neuroinflammation and neuronal apoptosis in the hippocampus.
