Study of the association between serum totaltestosterone and body mass index in elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Objective To investigate the association between serum total testosterone(TT)and body mass index(BMI)in elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 123 elderly male T2DM patients were selected to measure their height, weight and calculate the BMI,and detect serum TT,glucose and lipid metabolism indexes and so on.According to BMI,the study objects were divided into normal weight group(18.0≤BMI<24.0 kg/m2),overweight group(24.0≤BMI<28.0 kg/m2)and obese group(BMI≥28.0 kg/m2).The clinical indexes of each group were compared and analyzed. Results With the increase of BMI,TT of normal weight, overweight and obese group decreased successively(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that TT was negatively correlated with BMI.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that BMI,age,LDL-C,FPG and eGFR were the influencing factors of TT.Conclusion Serum TT level was negatively correlated with BMI in elderly male patients with T2DM.Overweight and obesity are the influencing factors of serum TT decline.
