Effect of inhaled salmeterolticasone on cortisol and body mass in children with asthma
Objective To investigate the effect of continuous low-dose inhaled salmeterolticasone on serum cortisol level and the body mass of children with asthma.Methods Serum cortisol,the body mass and the body mass growth of 25 children with mild and moderate asthma aged 4 to 11 years were observed before treatment,6 months and 1 year after treatment with salmeterolticasone,compared with 17 children of the control group.Results There were no significant differences in serum cortisol,body mass and body mass increase between asthmatic children and the control group at 6 months and 1 year after treatment(P>0.05).Conclusion Continuous low-dose inhaled salmeterolticasone has no significant effect on serum cortisol and the body mass of asthmatic children,and no excessive increase in body mass.
