Meta-analysis of the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine compounds combined with paroxetine in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder
Objective To systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)compounds combined with paroxetine in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder(GAD).Methods CNKI,Wanfang,VIP and CBM were searched from the beginning of the database to February 17,2024 for Randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of TCM compounds combined with paroxetine in the treatment of GAD.The control group was treated with paroxetine, and the test group was treated with TCM compounds and paroxetine. The Cochrane risk bias assessment tool and improved Jadad scale were utilized for literature methodological quality evaluation.Stata 16.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results A total of 23 RCTs were included, with 851 patients in the test group and 844 patients in the control group.Meta analysis showed that the test group reduced HAMA score[WMD=-2.83,95%CI(-3.72,-1.94),P<0.05],reduced SAS score[WMD=-4.95,95%CI(-7.08,-2.82),P<0.05],improved treatment response rate[OR=1.18,95%CI(1.01,1.37),and P<0.05]were significantly better than the control group. In terms of reducing the incidence of adverse reactions, the test group was significantly lower than the control group[OR=0.46,95%CI(0.31,0.68),P<0.05].Conclusion TCM compounds combined with paroxetine has better efficacy and safety in the treatment of GAD compared with paroxetine alone.Since the methodological quality assessment of the included literature is all low-quality literature, more high-quality multi-center RCTs are needed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM compound combined with conventional western medicine.
