As a first-line antidiabetic drug metformin can not only be used to control blood glucose and treat T2DM,but also has potential therapeutic effects on malignant tumors,cardiovascular diseases,thyroid diseases,obesity type polycystic ovary syndrome and so on.This article reviews the literature on metformin in the treatment of diabetes and other clinical effects.
