Practice of a hospital's use of medication labels to improve medication guidance for patients receive medication by mail in gastroenterology department
Objective To improve the work of medication guidance for patients who received medication by mail in the gastroenterology department by optimizing the visualized layout of labeling of medications. Methods An automatic drug label printing machine was introduced and the design layout of medication labels was improved to display the special medication instructions of gastroenterology medicine.QR code technology was introduced for patients to scan to read more important medication guidance.Patients in the gastroenterology department who received medication by mail were divided into the control group before label improvement and the improved group after label improvement. The ratings of rational-drug-use knowledge and medication-guidance-services satisfaction of the two groups were investigated through telephone follow-up to evaluate the effectiveness of the gastroenterology medication labels guidance model. Results Through improvements,in addition to directly displaying the frequency of drug usage and dosage, gastroenterology medication labels had also added patient information, storage conditions, special medication instructions, and QR code graphics for storing more important medication guidance.Through follow-up,the ratings of rational-drug-use knowledge(3.47±0.93)and medication-guidance-services satisfaction(3.70±0.92)of the improved group were significantly higher than those of the control group before improvement(3.01±1.11,3.10±1.12,respectively)(P<0.05).Conclusion Using medication labels to carry more medication guidance content can make up for the deficiencies of pharmacist medication guidance in mail delivery model, which improve patients'awareness of rational drug use, ensure patient safety and rational drug use,and increase patient satisfaction with pharmacy services.
