Principal Component Analysis of Body Size and Weight in Adult Tarim Wapiti
To investigate the relationship between body weight and body size of adult Tarim wapiti, body weight(Y),body slant length(X1),body height(X2),head length(X3),chest circumference(X4),chest depth(X5),forehead width(X6),cannon circumference(X7),and tail length(X8)indexes of 30 adult Tarim wapiti(half male, half female)were measured, and then correlation analysis, principal component analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis were carried out.The results showed that the body weight of bucks was positively correlated with body slant length and chest circumference(P<0.01),the body weight of does was positively correlated with body slant length, head length, chest circumference, and cannon cir-cumference(P<0.01),and there were different degrees of correlation among all body size traits.Through principal compo-nent analysis, the greater correlation with buck body weight was body height and chest circumference, the greater correla-tion with doe body weight was chest circumference and body slant length, and the least correlation with buck and doe body weight was chest depth. The best regression equation for the body weight of the Tarim wapiti buck was Y=1.896X1-0.871X3+1.041X5+6.040X7-170.318(R2=0.962,P<0.01),and that for the body weight of the Tarim wapiti doe was Y=2.078X3+1.846X5+5.413X7+12.053X8-249.647(R2=0.909,P<0.01).In conclusion,in the breeding work of Tarim wapiti, the selection of bucks should focus on the selection of body slant length, body height, and chest circumference traits, and the selection of doe should strengthen the selection of body slant length, chest circumference, and cannon circumference traits.
