Risk Assessment for Street Tree Safety Based on VTA Method and Sound Wave Detection Technology
In order to ensure delicacy management of urban trees and promote the science-based risk control for tree safety, the paper uses the VTA method and stress-wave diagnostic technology to assess the safety risk of the street trees along three urban expressways in Shenzhen. The results show that:1)There are totally more than 900 trees with safety risk, which are related to 37 tree species and account for 4.20%of the total street trees.Among them,Cinnamomum burmanni,Acacia mangium,Falcataria falcata, and Leucaena leucocephala are the tree species whose proportion of trees with safety risks exceeds 10%;2)C.burmanni,F.falcate and A.mangium are the species suffering from relatively severe trunk lesion, while the trunk cavity rates of the three species reach 57.65%,36.36%,and 26.67%,respectively.The trunk lesion rate of C.burmanni and F.falcate increases with the increased diameter at Breast Height;and 3)Mechanical damage to trees is prone to inducing the trunk decay and cavity, especially in shaded habitats with high plant density. In this sense, recommendations are proposed to reduce the risk with control measures such as street tree management, selection of suitable tree species, and investigation of hazards.
