Differences in Perceived Local Characteristics of Zhujiajiao Ancient Town from the Perspectives of Tourists and Residents
As a typical ancient town in Jiangnan,Zhujiajiao Ancient Town has seen rapid development of tourism,but the mixing of residential and tourism spaces has led to contradictions between tourists and residents,which are the two perception subject,and has generated different perceptions and emotions towards the local characteristics of Zhujiajiao.In order to explore the localized development direction of Zhujiajiao Ancient Town under the mixed residence and tourism,we start from the two perception subjects,i.e.,residents and tourists,to analyze the differences between residents and tourists in their perception of local characteristics of the town and the pleasure experienced accordingly using questionnaire survey,interviews and field trips,and also analyze the reasons behind the differences and the influencing factors.The results show that tourists have a stronger perception and sense of pleasure towards tourism-related objects,while residents in general have a positive and supportive attitude towards local tourism development,give a higher evaluation of the Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Scenic Area,and show a greater intensity of perception and sense of pleasure than tourists towards the various factors to the perception of Zhujiajiao.Accordingly,the guidance strategy for planning is proposed to fully utilize the riverbank space for revitalizing the shared space for residence and tourism,and optimize the existing commercial businesses with the focus on high-quality commercial activities.
