National and International Research on Wilderness:Origin,Evolution and Practices
Wilderness spaces are inherent components of natural ecosystems, representing natural spaces that retain ecological stability and aesthetic experiences amidst the ever-increasing human activities. This paper employs CiteSpace, the bibliometric analysis software,to systematically analyze the publication characteristics, research hotspots, and evolutionary trends of wilderness research both domestically and internationally. The results indicate:1)International wilderness research commences earlier and has evolved into a relatively stable network for institutional and author collaboration.Comparatively, domestic wilderness research is in its infancy, and institutional and researcher collaboration networks are taking shape;2)The themes of research abroad have evolved from conceptual connotation analysis and protection significance to wilderness spatial mapping and its innovative applications in wilderness management, gradually shifting towards the domains such as public participation and multi-source data mapping.Domestic research on wilderness has relatively fragmented themes and content, characterized by the equal emphasis on learning, drawing upon and exploring international concepts, ideas, experiences, and mapping methodologies;and 3)Foreign countries possess more mature technologies and systems for incorporating wilderness into regulatory and protective frameworks, exhibiting a higher level of research integrity, systematization, and continuity.Future research should continue to be guided by localization, internalizing traditional cultural elements to expand wilderness connotations, innovating mapping techniques and methodologies, and strengthening protection and management systems.
