Seasonal Canopy Color Variation of Typical Forest Stands in Forest Parks of Pearl River Delta
Due to variations in species composition, plant characteristics, and seasonal changes, different forest stands exhibit unique color landscapes. However, the comparative studies on the color characteristics of forest stands and their variations remain limited.Focusing on 9 typical forest stands in the Pearl River Delta region,we set up 74 sample plots within forest parks, and obtain 1 378 forest images using drones for periodic year-round photography. Then, through color classification intervals, the color patches of the images are analyzed, and selects 10 indicators from three aspects of color composition, color attributes, and color spatial distribution patterns,to quantify the canopy color characteristics of these typical forest stands and their seasonal variations. The findings aim to provide scientific supports for the design and optimization of forest color landscapes in the Pearl River Delta region. The results show that:1)In terms of the color composition, there are 44 types of color in the canopy of forest stands in the Pearl River Delta, and the colors in Litchi chinensis,Eucalyptus robusta, and Machilus nanmu forests are the most diverse and exhibit significant seasonal changes;2)In terms of color attributes,E.robusta,Acacia confusa, and Schima superba forests have a higher proportion of orange and yellow colors, while L.chinensis and Tetradium glabrifolium forests have a higher proportion of yellow green and light green;Castanopsis fissa forests exhibit higher color saturation, and L.chinensis forests show higher brightness;and 3)Regarding the color landscape patterns,L.chinensis and E.robusta forests display high patch diversity,T.glabrifolium and Heptapleurum heptaphyllum forests have a high degree of patch fragmentation, while E.robusta,A.confusa,Camphora officinarum forests have complex patch shapes.Although the color characteristics of each forest stand are different, there is a certain degree of commonality in seasonal change.Winter and spring feature a rich variety of colors and a high proportion of non-green areas, summer exhibits high saturation and brightness, and autumn shows lower patch fragmentation and diversity indices but with complex shapes.
