Brain metastases are one of the most common central nervous system tumors in adults and are characterized by rapid development and poor prognosis. With the continuous development of radiotherapy technology and the emergence of new treatment modalities such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy, the survival rate of patients with brain metastases has been greatly improved. The detection and evaluation of lesions on imaging are crucial to the selection of treatment options and patient prognosis. Therefore, modern medical care has placed higher demands on imaging.Routine imaging MRI has been the gold standard for the diagnosis and evaluation of brain metastases. With the continuous improvement of imaging technology,MRI is not only limited to morphological assessment of brain metastases, but also functional imaging such as magnetic resonance spectroscopy, brain perfusion imaging, and diffusion tensor imaging to assess brain metastases at the biological level. In addition, the emergence of new technologies such as radiomics and artificial intelligence in recent years is expected to simplify the heavy clinical work and realize intelligent detection and evaluation of lesions, which greatly improves the efficiency and accuracy of work. This article reviews the diagnosis and efficacy assessment of brain metastases from imaging.
