In this paper, the spoke-type rotor and Halbach PM array are combined then the rib is removed, which reduces the rotor flux leakage to achieve high flux concentration while considering the saliency ratio.High torque/power density and wide speed range can be achieved.Under the same volume of PMs,two models with the new rotor and V-shaped rotor are established. Then, the main electromagnetic properties are compared according to the two segmented rotor structures, including air-gap flux density, saliency ratio, field weakening capacity, and power.Meanwhile, considering the structural strength problem of the segmented rotor without rib,the rotor strength analysis result verifies the integrity of the machine with the new high saliency ratio rotor under the protection of carbon fiber at 6000 r/min.This paper also analyzes the output power of the machine with the new rotor under temperature limitation. In addition, the vibration and noise of the two models are also analyzed and compared. Finally,a 16-pole/72-slot prototype with the new high saliency ratio rotor is fabricated. The accuracy of the finite element analysis results is verified by experiments.Meanwhile, the performance of the motor with the new flux-concentrating rotor is superior to the motor with the V-shaped rotor in terms of torque/power density and wide speed range, which is further explained.
