Selection of Adjuvants for Inactivated Vaccines against Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea
In order to investigate the effect of different adjuvants on inactivated vaccines against porcine epidemic diarrhea(PED),vaccines were prepared by three adjuvants,i.e.,oil-in-water adjuvant A(O/W),water-in-oil adjuvant B(W/O)and water-oil-water adjuvant C(W/O/W),to vaccinate piglets at the age of 3~5 days, respectively, followed by challenge test as well as comprehensive evaluation on the immunization effect of the adjuvants. The results showed that the antibody levels of the vaccinated pigs in A and B adjuvant groups were lower than those in C adjuvant group;it was detected that, after virus challenge, only all the piglets in C adjuvant group were negative;and no organ lesion was found in all vaccinated piglets under autopsy. In conclusion, inactivated vaccines prepared with water-oil-water adjuvants were obviously superior to those with water-in-oil or oil-in-water adjuvants, which was safer and could be prioritized to prepare inactivated vaccines against PED.The preparation and production of PED vaccines were technically supported by the study.
