Practice of ASF Control Consortium of Small and Medium Swine Farms in Nanzhang County,Hubei Province
African swine fever(ASF)has been posing a serious threat to pig industry as a major problem faced by the industry in the world.In order to effectively prevent and control ASF,a new mode for such efforts in small and medium swine farms was explored with the example of the construction of ASF control consortium in Nanzhang County,Hubei Province.Based on the principles of"lead by government,self-construction by owners,supervision by industry and guidance by experts"for constructing a control consortium,as well as the overall plan of strengthening monitoring and early warning,improving prevention and control measures and developing a cooperation mechanism,a contiguous prevention and control zone under the mode was defined taking advantages of geographical characteristics and natural barriers,an ASF control consortium was organized and constructed by small and medium swine farms/households as led by the government.Cleaning and disinfection centers at Ⅰ level for livestock and poultry transport vehicles were invested by the government and constructed at entrances to highways between counties,national roads,provincial roads,etc.,and those at Ⅱ level were jointly invested by the members of the consortium and constructed within the control zone.Unitive prevention and control strategies,procurement of raw materials and live pigs,prevention and control management and technical guidance were followed by the consortium,by which,the level of ASF prevention and control in Nanzhang County was improved with significant economic and social benefits.In conclusion,the mode,with good prospects of application and promotion,providing a new idea for ASF prevention and control in small and medium swine farms and for construction of ASF free compartments.
