Development Status of Global Veterinary Drug Industry
Veterinary drug industry is the foundation to promote healthy development of animal breeding industry,playing an important role in safeguarding the safety of animal-derived food and public health.In order to investigate the development status of global veterinary drug industry,its structure,development status and inputs into research were reviewed and analyzed.The industry was growing rapidly as driven by frequent global outbreaks of animal diseases,increasing support by government,the public's higher demand for animal-derived food hygiene and safety,rapid development of pet markets and other factors,the total sales of global veterinary drugs increased from 35.716 billion US dollars to 47.783 billion US dollars from 2015 to 2021,with a compound growth rate of 3.70％;the industry was developing with high concentration,80.52％markets were controlled by North America,Europe and Asia;the market share of veterinary biological products was continuously increasing from 25％in 2005 to 30％in 2020,but that of veterinary chemical drugs was decreasing from 63％to 59％;the structure was gradually adjusted,with rising sales in pet industry,approaching the share of food-producing animals;the inputs to the research and development of veterinary drugs were continuously increasing,for an example,the number of granted patents in the industry had been rapidly increasing since 2019.In the paper,the structure and development changes of the veterinary drug industry were analyzed to find out all factors limiting the industry's development as well as conditions and challenges faced by the industry,with a view to providing new ideas and measures for high-quality development of veterinary drug industry in China.
