Serological Surveillance on Brucellosis in Cattle and Sheep in Liuyang City,Hunan Province from 2019 to 2023
In order to investigate the status of brucellosis in cattle and sheep and the efforts of prevention,control and eradication in Liuyang City,serological surveillance was carried out across the city from 2019 to 2023.The results showed that 21 positive farms(including 16 for sheep and 5 for cattle)were detected,and the average positive rate was 0.35%for the farms/herds,covering 329 positive samples,and that was 0.48%for the individuals;positive farms were detected every year except 2019,with a peak from May to August;positive samples were detected from 12 townships and all the 4 districts;for 21 positive farms,17 were free-range households,4 were commercial farms,and no positive samples were detected from markets and cattle and sheep breeding farms.In conclusion,brucellosis was widely prevalent in cattle and sheep in Liuyang City at low level,posing a low risk of regional pandemic,but potential risk of spread in commercial farms and free-range households,which indicated that the disease should be intensively prevented and controlled,especially monitored in summers,meanwhile quarantine supervision and transportation regulation should be strictly implemented,professional training and behavioral interventions of practitioners should be improved,and purification of the disease should be sped up to comprehensively improve the capacity of brucellosis prevention and control.
