Investigation on the Intestinal Parasitic Infection in Sheep in Hami City of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
In order to investigate the infection characteristics and prevalence of sheep intestinal parasites in Hami City,638 sheep fecal samples taken from Yizhou District,Balikun County and Yiwu County in 2023 were tested for intestinal parasites using the saturated saline floatation method. The results showed that the total infection rate was 65.83%,with a total of 12 species of intestinal parasites detected out, dominated by Coccidium and Nematodirus spp;the single infection rate was 31.03%,and the mixed one was 13.95%and mainly with Coccidium,Nematodirus spp and other species;the intestinal parasite infection rate greatly varied in the three districts/counties with statistical significance(P<0.05),and was the highest in Balikun County(60.26%),followed by Yiwu County(45.08%),and then Yizhou District(32.75%);the infection rates of sheep intestinal parasites in spring, summer, autumn and winter were 34.54%,42.56%,58.42%and 40.43%,respectively,and those in summer and autumn were higher than those in spring and winter, especially the highest in autumn compared to other seasons(P<0.05).In conclusion, the intestinal parasitic infection in sheep was serious and complex in Hami City, mainly with Coccidium and Nematodirus spp,and mixed infection existed, and the infection status was different in different regions and seasons.Farms/households were recommended to improve their feeding management level and to deworm with different drugs in regular rotation, especially the prevention and control of Coccidium and Nematodirus spp using drugs in rainy seasons under high temperature.
