Review on Some Key Indicators for Safety Evaluation on African Swine Fever Vaccines and Some Reflections
It was recognized that development of African swine fever(ASF)vaccines was a challenge at the world level. With continuous development of modern biotechnologies, laboratory researches on ASF vaccines, especially live attenuated vaccines, had again set off a new wave with a positive progress. However, there had been no common reference standard for the safety evaluation indicators of candidate vaccines, especially in vaccination test, safety test for pregnant sows, vaccine horizontal transmission test, and virulence regression test, which compromised the objective evaluation of current ASF vaccines to a certain extent. Here, some key indicators of ASF vaccine safety evaluation, such as clinical post-vaccination performance, horizontal transmission, virulence regression as well as safety for pregnant sows involved in the papers published in China and other countries, were reviewed, and relevant research progress, achievements and problems were outlined, aiming to provide a reference for relevant researchers in China.
