Epidemiology and Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Schmallenberg Disease
Schmallenberg virus(SBV)is a novel arbovirus that was first isolated in Germany in 2011,and subsequently led to a wide epidemic in Europe animals,especially in cattle,sheep,goats and other ruminants that suffered from clinical diseases.In the event of an infection,transient diseases characterized by diarrhea,hyperthermia and decreased milk production are usually found in adult ruminants,abortion,preterm delivery or stillbirth are often observed in pregnant animals,and congenital malformations are in newborn animals.Here,the prevalence status,epidemiological characteristics,diagnostic methods and progress of vaccine development of Schmallenberg disease were reviewed,followed by prevention measures for possible risk of SBV introduction,with a view to providing a reference for development of biosafety prevention and control strategies to prevent any introduction of the disease into China.
