Serological Investigation on Bovine and Porcine FMD in Border Areas of Yunnan Province in 2023
In order to investigate the control status of bovine and porcine foot-and-mouth disease(FMD)in border areas of Yunnan Province, surveillance sites were set up in 8 border counties/cities with frequent cross-border animal movement in 2023,and 1 630 bovine and 830 porcine serum samples were collected to detect antibodies against FMD virus(FMDV)types O and A,followed by statistical analysis of the results. The results revealed that the antibody positive rates of FMDV types O and A were 71.17%and 80.12%in cattle herds, respectively, and 33.13%and 26.27%in pig herds, respectively.Statistical analysis results indicated that the positive rates of FMDV types O and A in intensive cattle farms were both lower than those in smallholders'farms, without statistical significance(P>0.05).The positive rates of FMDV types O and A in imported cattle were 70.29%and 89.14%,respectively,whereas those in local cattle were 71.37%and 77.98%,respectively,and the rate of FMDV type A was significantly higher(P<0.05)in the former compared to the latter. In conclusion, the immunization level of FMD in cattle herds reached national standard, but that in pig herds was lower. Therefore, continuous FMD serological monitoring was recommended to be carried out in the border areas of Yunnan Province, giving a priority to improving the immunization density and intensity in intensive cattle farms and pig herds, and intensifying the investigation and punishment against smuggling activities related to cattle to strictly prevent any introduction and spread of FMDV.
