Pathogen Detection and Genotype Analysis of Mixed Infection in a Pigeon Farm in Shandong Province
In order to identify the pathogens and genotypes causing mass morbidity and mortality to young pigeons in a pigeon farm in Shandong Province, pathological dissection, bacterial isolation and cultivation, virus nucleic acid detection and genetic evolutionary analysis were carried out on 4 dead young pigeons. The results showed that the trachea, intestine, glandular stomach and other tissues or organs of these pigeons were severely bleeding. No colony was observed after bacterial isolation and cultivation.Positive nucleic acids of Newcastle disease virus(NDV),pigeon rotavirus(PiRV)and pigeon circovirus(PiCV)were detected. The detected NDV belonged to subtype Ⅵ.2.1.1.2.2,and was the highest identical to the reference strain of SH-167 in China, while the detected PiRV belonged to subtype G18P[17],and was the highest identical to the reference strains of CHN/ARO and SX-05 in China;the detected PiCV was the highest identical to the reference strain of SF-80 in China. In conclusion, the pigeons died of mixed infection with NDV,PiCV and PiRV,and no major mutation was found in relevant epidemic virus strains. In view of complex pathogens prevalent in pigeon flocks, pigeon flocks should be intensively vaccinated,in addition to strict biosafety management, thus to reduce potential risk of outbreak and prevalence of pigeon diseases.
