Sero-epidemiological Investigation on Sheep Toxoplasmosis in Shenxian County,Shandong Province
In order to preliminarily investigate the prevalence and potential risk factors of sheep toxoplasmosis in Shenxian County,Shandong Province,a total of 1 240 sheep serum samples were collected from 49 farms/households in the county from March 2023 to March 2024,the antibodies against T.gondii were detected using indirect hemagglutination assay(IHA)and relevant risk factors affecting the prevalence of the disease in this region were analyzed. The results showed that 103 positive serum samples were detected from 17 farms/households,the positive rates at farm/group and individual level were 34.69%(17/49)and 8.31%(103/1 240),respectively,and highest in D Township, which were 71.43%(5/7)and 17.11%(32/187),respectively.It was further revealed that the positive rate of antibodies against sheep T.gondii was greatly different(P<0.05)depending on different ages, breeding modes and seasons, and the infection rate of sheep T.gondii was greatly affected(P<0.05)by the status whether there were dogs or cats on farms and the level of hygienic management, but with slight difference(P>0.05)among different genders of sheep. In conclusion,T.gondii was prevalent in Shenxian County, being affected by various risk factors(ages, seasons, breeding modes, whether there were dogs or cats on farms, etc).A scientific basis was provided for future prevention and control of sheep toxoplasmosis in the region.
