Study on the relationship between Chlorinated paraffins levels in neonatal cord blood and birth outcome
Objective To explore the concentration level of chlorparaffin(Chlorinated paraffins,CPs)in neonatal cord blood and ana-lyze the effect of fetal chlorparaffin exposure on birth outcomes. Methods From September 2021 to August 2022,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 50 pregnant women in Jiaxing Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital(Women and Children's Hospital Affiliated to Jiaxing Medical College). All pregnant women were singleton pregnancy, and nutritional metabolic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes melli-tus,abnormal thyroid function, viral infection of HIV and history of adverse drugs were excluded.Collect neonatal cord blood samples,Con-centrate-concentration and purification by extraction-evaporation,Finally,gas chromatography-mass spectrometer was used to quantitatively detect 8 short and medium chain CPs in umbilical cord blood(mainly SCCPs and MCCPs,The concentrations of the SCCPs-C10,SCCPs-C11,SCCPs-C12,SCCPs-C13,MCCPs-C14,MCCPs-C15,MCCPs-16,MCCPs-17,respectively),Calculated the total concentration of SCCPs and MCCPs(8 CPs),And further analyzed the effect of CPs concentration levels in umbilical cord blood on neonatal birth out-comes.Results The length of the newborn in our hospital was(50.14±0.74)cm,weight(3.48±0.41)kg,chest circumference(34.75±1.50)cm,head circumference(35.02±1.39)cm,and physical constitution index(13.75±1.35)kg/m2.The median concentra-tion(range)of 8 CPs in neonatal cord blood was 13.56(0.98-363.68)ng/ml.SCCPs-C10,SCCPs-C11,SCCPs-C12,SCCPs-C13,MCCPs-C14,MCCPs-C15,MCCPs-16,MCCPs-17 were 96%,24%,24%,70%,44%,72%,14%,16%,respectively.The median(range)of CPs(SCCPs-C10,SCCPs-C11,SCCPs-C12,SCCPs-C13,MCCPs-C14,MCCPs-C15,MCCPs-C16,MCCPs-C17)congeners were<LOD-94.03 ng/ml,<LOD-137.18 ng/ml,<LOD-33.15 ng/ml,<LOD-46.93 ng/ml,<LOD-22.28 ng/ml,<LOD-79.06 ng/ml,<LOD-21.61 ng/ml,<LOD-21.38 ng/ml,respectively.The neonatal BM1 was inversely associated with the concentrations of SCCPs-C10(r=-0.346,P<0.05)and MCCPs-C14(r=-0.291,P<0.05).The birth outcome was divided into two groups:low(25%)and high(>25%)according to the cumulative frequency of 25%.The geometric means of SCCPs-C10 in low length(50 cm)and high length(<50 cm)were 10.58 ng/ml and 3.59 ng/ml,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(t=2.31,P=0.03).Conclusion CPs are prevalent in neonatal cord blood in our hospital, and exposure to CPs during pregnancy may affect neonatal birth outcomes.
