Effect of montelukast combined with sodium cromoglicate on levels of immunoglobulin E and Th1/Th2 cytokines in children with allergic rhinitis
Objective To analyze the effect of montelukast combined with sodium cromoglicate on immunoglobulin E(IgE)and Th1/Th2 cytokines in treatment of children with allergic rhinitis. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 80 chil-dren with allergic rhinitis in Zhoushan Women and Children's Hospital from January 2020 to December 2022.The children were divided into observation group and control group according to different treatment methods, with 40 cases in each group. The children in control group were treated with montelukast, while the children in observation group were treated with montelukast combined with sodium cromoglicate. The lev-els of IgE,Th 1/Th2 cytokines[interleukin-2(IL-2),interleukin-4(IL-4),interleukin-6(IL-6),interferon γ(IFN-γ)]before and after treatment, clinical symptom relief time, and incidence rates of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in the levels of IgE and Th1/Th2 cytokines between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment,IgE levels in the two groups decreased,IgE level in observation group was(1.12±0.16)IU/L,which was lower than that in control group[(1.23±0.22)IU/L],there was statistically significant difference(P<0.05),the levels of Th1/Th2 cyto-kines in the two groups were improved,IL-4 level[(35.69±3.14)ng/L],IL-6 level[(1.89±0.07)ng/L]in observation group were lower than those in control group[(37.28±3.47)ng/L,(2.31±0.10)ng/L],IL-2 level[(7.90±1.59)ng/ml],IFN-γ level[(87.52±9.41)ng/L]in observation group were higher than those in control group[(6.84±1.33)ng/ml,(83.26±8.75)ng/L],there were statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The relief time of nasal congestion, watery nasal mucus, and paroxysmal sneezing symptoms in observation group[(3.45±0.86)days,(3.24±0.51)days,(4.12±0.67)days]was shorter than that in control group[(3.93±1.15)days,(4.57±0.68)days,(4.53±0.72)days],there were statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The inci-dence rate of adverse reactions in observation group(5.00%)was lower than that in control group(15.00%),there was statistically signifi-cant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion The clinical efficacy of montelukast combined with sodium cromoglicate in treatment of children with allergic rhinitis is significant. It not only significantly optimizes the levels of IgE and Th1/Th2 cytokines, but also accelerates relief of clinical symptoms and reduces the risk of adverse reactions.
