Analysis and Suggestions on the Enrollment Scale of Undergraduate Preventive Medicine Education in Chinese General Universities
Objective:Analyze the overall situation and trends in the enrollment scale ofundergraduate preventive medicine education in Chinese general universities from 2017 to 2020.Compare the enrollment scales of different types of universities and regions to provide a basis for improving the training program for high-level public health talents from the perspective of enrollment scale. Methods:Descriptive statistical analysis was used to analyze the overall trend of enrollment scale from 2017 to 2020 and the distribution of public health practitioners in different provinces in 2019.Chi-square tests were used to compare the differences in enrollment scale among different types and regions of universities. Results:The number of universities offering preventive majors in China has slightly increased each year from 2017 to 2020,and the planned enrollment of undergraduate students in preventive medicine has generally increased, with the most significant growth in 2020.Differences in enrollment scale composition ratios exist among different school natures, regions, and types(P<0.05),while there is little difference in enrollment numbers between 985 and Double First-Class universities(P>0.05).Conclusion:The overall enrollment scale of undergraduate preventive medicine in China is on the rise, but the growth rate is slow. There are issues such as insufficient overall enrollment, uneven distribution of enrollment in different regions, and differences in enrollment scale among different types of universities. To meet the needs of the development of public health in China,it is necessary to continue to reasonably expand the enrollment scale of preventive undergraduates in key universities and comprehensive universities and appropriately increase the enrollment scale in the western and eastern regions.
