The Application of Flipped Classroom Teaching Method Based on Standardized Patients in Inquiry Training
Objective:To explore the application effect of the flipped classroom teaching method based on standardized patients(SP)in inquiry training. Methods:Two classes of clinical undergraduate students from our university in 2017 were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received instruction using the flipped classroom teaching method based on SP,while the control group received traditional teaching methods. The teaching effectiveness was evaluated based on the scores of history-taking skills in the national level examination and students'satisfaction. Results:The scores of examiner assessment,SP assessment, and total history-taking scores were higher in the experimental group than in the control group.Specifically, the scores for inquiry content, collection process and techniques, and communication skills were higher in the experimental group. Moreover, the scores for communication skills and humanistic qualities were also higher in the experimental group.Students in the experimental group were more satisfied with the teaching method. Conclusion:Implementing the flipped classroom teaching method based on SP in inquiry training is a beneficial attempt to integrate the Internet with medical education. It provides a new approach for cultivating application-oriented medical talents with solid theoretical knowledge, strong practical skills, and high comprehensive qualities. This method deserves further promotion in other clinical skills training areas.
