The research integrity of graduate students is crucial for fostering a healthy academic research environment in universities and enhancing China's cultural capabilities. This study uses CiteSpace visualization software to track the hotspots in the field of research misconduct among graduate students.Additionally, integrating behavioral economics into the analysis of reasons behind research misconduct among graduate students, this study explores anchoring effects, reference dependence, loss aversion, and availability heuristic biases. It identifies factors such as rigid requirements for paper publications, overemphasis on the quantity of papers in research evaluation systems, and inadequate attention to academic ethics education in society and universities as contributors to research misconduct among graduate students.Suggestions are proposed for universities, mentors, and society to gradually improve the current situation of research misconduct, including refining academic evaluation systems, optimizing graduate mentor teams, enhancing academic ethics education systems, and reducing thesis requirements for graduation and job-seeking.
