Survey and Analysis of the Research Competence of Senior Undergraduate Medical Students under the"Double First-Class"Initiative
Objective:To investigate the current status of research competence among senior undergraduate medical students undergoing clinical practice and internships in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and to analyze the differences in research competence based on gender and academic program, while exploring potential training measures. Methods:A self-designed questionnaire on research competence was used to survey 118 senior undergraduate medical students.Results:(1)In terms of research skills, the vast majority of students reported being familiar with searching Chinese and English literature, with more than half indicating familiarity with writing Chinese articles and understanding commonly used statistical methods and software. In terms of research practice, the percentage of students who had published Chinese or English articles was relatively low, both at only 8.5%.(2)There was no significant difference in research competence between male and female students.(3)Differences were observed between students in different academic programs.Students in the eight-year program were superior to those in the five-year program in terms of proficiency in reading English literature, understanding English article writing, and publishing Chinese articles. Conclusion:Senior undergraduate medical students possess a basic theoretical foundation in research, but their practical research abilities are relatively weak.Measures should be taken to optimize the research training model and enhance students'research competence.
