Comparative Study of the Effects of SPOC and Traditional Classroom Teaching on Medical Education Based on Meta-Analysis
Objective:To systematically evaluate the impact of Small Private Online Courses(SPOC)versus traditional classroom teaching on medical education in the post-pandemic era.Methods:This study searched literature from January 2000 to June 2021 in major databases such as CNKI,Wanfang,and VIP regarding the use of SPOC and traditional classroom teaching in medical schools in China.Meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.3 software.Results:A total of 9 studies involving 995 participants were included.Students receiving SPOC teaching had significantly better exam scores SMD=0.74,95%CI(0.58,0.90),higher learning enthusiasm and interest OR=5.39,95%CI(3.38,8.60),and greater teaching satisfaction OR=4.68,95%CI(2.87,7.66)compared to those receiving traditional classroom teaching(P<0.00001).Compared to traditional classroom teaching,SPOC is more effective in improving students'exam scores,and students show significantly higher interest and satisfaction in SPOC teaching.Conclusion:SPOC has a superior teaching effect in medical schools compared to traditional classroom teaching.
