Investigation on Nursing Students'Professional Identity During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Objective:To investigate the professional identity of undergraduate nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic,as well as the factors influencing their professional identity,including pandemic-related factors.Methods:A convenience sample survey was conducted on 432 undergraduate nursing students from a university in Chongqing using an online questionnaire to assess their professional identity and its influencing factors.Results:(1)The professional identity of the nursing students was above average.There were statistically significant differences in professional identity scores between different grade levels(P<0.05),with fourth-year students scoring the highest and second-year students scoring the lowest.(2)Key factors influencing professional identity included family residence,father's education level,and mother's education level.(3)During public health emergencies,nursing students'determination to enter the profession and media coverage(both positive and negative)affected their professional identity,with negative media reports having a stronger impact than positive ones.Conclusion:Accurate media reporting and public recognition of healthcare workers during the pandemic can enhance nursing students'professional identity.Efforts to improve nursing students'professional identity should start as early as elementary education.
