Digital tag profiling of Cimex hemipterus by geometrical morphometry
Objective To study the information on the morphological and structural characteristics, and to explore the unique spatial geometric topology of Cimex hemipterus. Methods The high-definition morphological information of Cimex hemipterus was obtained using an ultra-depth of field three-dimensional microscopy system. The morphological variable framework was determined for Cimex hemipterus using the landmark-based geometric morphometric landmark technique. The morphological contour of Cimex hemipterus was depicted in Adobe Illustrator software. The landmarks were determined and the variable information on geometric morphological data was extracted by TpsDig v2.32 soft-ware.The landmarks were characterized by procrustes superposition in TpsSuper v2.05 software. Results A total of 48 Cimex hemipterus samples were collected in Hainan province, including 11 nymphs,22 female adults and 15 male adults.A total of 49 landmarks were constructed on the dorsal surface and 80 on the ventral surface of nymph.A total of 48 landmarks were constructed on the dorsal surface and 81 on the ventral surface of female.A total of 51 landmarks were constructed on the dorsal surface and 83 on the ventral surface of male.A total of 110 morphologi-cal variables were established by combining the landmarks of different stages of Cimex hemipterus with their external structures.Procrustes superposition mapped characteristic landmarks to a total of 6 normalized models of the dorsal and ventral surfaces of nymph, female, and male to characterize the normalized profiles for a visual geometric model of different stages of Cimex hemipterus. Conclusion Geometrical morphometry based on landmark coding rules were used as a taxonomic identification tool for Cimex hemipterus, provided different geometrical morphometric index for different stages of Cimex hemipterus.
