Classification of Culicoides(Jilinocoides)and a new species from China(Diptera:Ceratopogonidea)
Objective To investigate and research the classification and species distribution of Culicoides(Jilinocoides)in China. Methods The blood sucking midges were captured with light traps from the pigpens and cattle pens in Xunke County,Heilongjiang Province of China in 2022.The species of blood-sucking midges were identified mor-phologically after the specimen had been slided in phenol-balsom.Relevant literature was reviewed. Results A total of 10 000 hematophagous midges which including 12 species of Culicoides were collected.A new species,Culicoides(Jilinocoides)subdunhuaensis sp.nov.,was described. The new species was closely similar to Culicoides(Jilinocoides)dunhuaensis Chu,1983,but the latter one had the characteristics that the wing length 0.93mm,second radial cell dark, the cell M4 and cell A of without pale spot, palpal ratio 2.14,and mandible with 19 teeth. These characteristics were significantly different from Culicoides(Jilinocoides)subdunhuaensis sp.nov.Based on literature review, there were a total of 6 known species under Culicoides(Jilinocoides)in China. The distribution of the known species in China and the mean values of certain numerical characters were recorded. The key list and morphological feature fig-ures of the female specimen of Culicoides(Jilinocoides)were provided. Conclusion There were 6 species known under Culicoides(Jilinocoides)in China, and the investigation results provided a reference for the classification of this subgenus.
