Prospects of tongue swabs in rapid diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis at ports
Pulmonary tuberculosis is a serious global public health issue that severely endanger public health. At pre-sent,sputum sample was the main source for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis, has many limitations in the ap-plication of port health quarantine.Compared to sputum samples, tongue swabs demonstrate excellent diagnostic effi-cacy,as they are easier and safer to collect, and not constrained by sampling environment or the expertise of sam-pling personnel.Tongue swabs also exhibit higher compliance from sampled individuals, making them particu larly suitable for children and those without sputum production. As an emerging noninvasive sampling method, tongue swabs have become a potential alternative to sputum samples, they offer new possibilities for rapid diagnosis of pul-monary tuberculosis at ports. This paper discussed the advantages, latest research progress, application prospects and challenges faced in the rapid diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis at ports using tongue swabs. It called for further re-search to provide more effective technical support for the rapid diagnosis and control of pulmonary tuberculosis at ports.
