First report of Aedes flavopictus collected in near Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport,Jilin,China
Objective To identify the species of 3 adult Aedes mosquitoes collected in July 2024 by morphological and molecular methods, provide a basis for medical vectors control at ports. Methods In July 2024,3 adult Aedes mosquitoes were collected by human landing catches in the grass near Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture(Yanbian Prefecture),Jilin province. The samples were identified using mor-phological classification. Two of the samples were selected for PCR amplification of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit Ⅰ(COⅠ)gene and internal transcribed spacer 2(ITS2)region for gene sequencing. The sequences were compared with sequences in GenBank for phylogenetic analysis. Results Among the 3 Aedes mosquitoes,2 were female and 1 was male, all of which confirmed to the morphological characteristics of Aedes flavopictus. The COⅠand ITS2 gene sequences of the two mosquitoes showed more than 98%similarity with Aedes flavopictus sequences in GenBank.Phylogenetic evolutionary analysis revealed that the COⅠ gene sequences of the 2 mosquitoes were in the same branch with those Aedes flavopictus sequences from Russia and South Korea, while the ITS2 gene se-quences formed an independent branch with Aedes flavopictus sequences from Japan. Conclusion The 3 Aedes mosquitoes collected near Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport in Yanji,Yanbian Prefecture,Jilin province in July 2024 were all Aedes flavopictus. This is the first discovery of live adult Aedes flavopictus at suburbs of Yanji.
