Reasonable determining the layout of the harbor basin water area is crucial for cost control and ensuring safe operation in the later stage of upgrading and renovating the harbors with long and narrow basins.Comparative analysis of design influencing factors and value selection methods based on the European,American and Chinese codes on the design of the width of a long and narrow harbor basin with the channel function,the differences and applicability of different standards were summarized,the additional considerations for Chinese code designs was proposed,and the design recommendations for overseas similar projects were provided.By using typical engineering examples,the design calculations are explained,and the rationality of the narrow and long harbor basin design scheme is demonstrated and optimized through a vessel maneuvering simulation test.It provides valuable references for the determination of harbor basin width in overseas project and broaden the design ideas of harbor basin width of domestic harbor projects.
