In the whole process of urban development,urban planning is a very important component,it determines the functional layout of a city,determines the direction of a city's development.In the era of rapid urbanization,according to the trend of urban planning information development,the development from CAD+GIS platform to BIM technology has achieved good results,many departments in China are carrying out in-depth study on it.In this paper,the application of BIM technology in urban planning is briefly described from the perspective of planning designers,and the current application of BIM technology in urban planning and technical means are preliminarily discussed.
