A refined construction practice with narrow pressure window drilling in the south china sea
Narrow window drilling is a crucial characteristic of deepwater drilling, significantly restricting the progress of deepwater exploration and development. The western part of the South China Sea serves as the main battlefield for offshore deepwater drilling in China.Due to its unique geological conditions and operational challenges, narrow pressure windows have become one of the primary bottlenecks in deepwater drilling in this region. This paper systematically analyzes and summarizes the technical measures adopted worldwide to address narrow pressure window drilling, taking into account the specific characteristics of the strata in the Qiongdongnan Basin in the South China Sea.Combining practical experience from multiple self-operated deepwater wells,a set of refined construction theories for narrow pressure window drilling throughout the entire drilling process is developed.Real-life examples from field operations are also provided to serve as a reference and technical benchmark for deepwater narrow pressure window drilling.
