Advances on the epigenetics of knee osteoarthritis
Knee osteoarthritis is a complex genetic joint disease, and epigenetic factors play an important role in its development. The mechanisms of epigenetic regulation mainly include DNA modification, histone posttranslational modifications and non-coding RNA regulation.Epigenetic traits are cell-and tissue-specific and can vary with the environment.Unraveling of their roles in human tissues are particularly difficult. As the lowered threshold for gene sequencing, some epigenomic studies have summarized and improved epigenetic models and elucidated the mechanisms of the actions between epigenetic factors and knee osteoarthritis, which could help to understand the disease and develop new epigenetic-based therapeutic targets. This review reviews the progress of epigenetics in knee osteoarthritis.
