Application of platelet-rich plasma in hand surgery
Platelet-rich plasma(PRP)is an autologous platelet concentrate prepared from the whole blood.PRP is rich in growth factors(GFs)and cytokines, which play roles in anti-inflammatory,tissue healing, and matrix formation. It has been widely used in orthopedics. The efficacy of PRP in carpal tunnel syndrome, lateral epicondylitis, tenosynovitis, tendinopathy, osteoarthritis, and fracture has been affirmed.PRP can achieve similar or even better treatment effects than traditional treatment, especially for symptom relief and functional improvement. This literature reviewed the clinical applications of PRP in hand surgery at home and abroad in recent years to provide references for surgeons and clinical scholars. However, due to the differences in the PRP concentration and components used by scholars, the results were different, which also suggested the necessity of standardized concentration, components, and application of PRP.Despite many problems in the current studies about PRP,further studies are needed.
