Research progress of traumatic brain injury affecting fracture healing
Fractures from a variety of causes are common in clinic, and most of which can be healed with proper treatment and management.However,non-union of fractures still occurs from time to time.Although the incidence of non-union is relatively low,it increases the complexity of treatment, prolongs recovery time, and may even require additional surgical intervention. Some studies have shown that traumatic brain injury(TBI)alters the fracture healing process by affecting bone metabolism, immune system, inflammatory responses, sympathetic nerves, pain perception, and psychological factors, but the detailed mechanisms are unclear. The purpose of this paper is to review the effects of TBI on fracture healing and its possible mechanisms, aiming to provide references for the clinical treatment of fracture non-union and to reduce the risk of poor healing.
