Study on the ultimate penetration depth of subsea conductor suction piles
The conductor suction pile technology has promising applications in various fields such as natural gas hydrate development, marginal oilfield development, and subsea development in military channel zones. However, during the installation of conductor suction piles, there is a challenge of incomplete penetration leading to the subsea wellhead being excessively elevated above the mudline, which leads to instability under complex drilling conditions and loads. Therefore,it is necessary to conduct research on the ultimate penetration depth.Based on the mechanical model of conductor suction pile penetration stage,a ultimate penetration depth model of conductor suction pile is established, taking into account the penetration resistance and ultimate suction force. The conductor suction pile surface construction design is carried out with the background of the Well X project in the western of the South China Sea.The resistance during penetration of 6 m diameter conductor suction pile is calculated, and the design parameters of ultimate suction force of conductor suction pile are provided. The calculation results indicate that the main limiting factors for the ultimate suction force of the conductor suction pile at this wellhead X are the critical suction force and pump suction force. The ultimate penetration depth is mainly influenced by the soil type, strength and critical suction force.Soil with high strength and high permeability will cause a decrease in the ultimate penetration depth. The ultimate penetration depth of 26.75 m is obtained after calculation and analysis. The calculation of the ultimate penetration depth can provide an essential technical reference for the design and on-site construction of conductor suction piles.
