New progress and future directions of CNOOC oil and gas exploration
The innovations in geological understanding and breakthroughs in exploration technology have provided significant support for major discoveries in oil and gas exploration. In 2023,China National Offshore Oil Corporation(CNOOC)has gained a series of new geological understanding in the formation mechanism of concealed buried hills and the enrichment mode of deep-water and ultra-shallow natural gas. These theoretical understandings directed significant breakthroughs in 10 exploration fields, including shallow lithology and subtle buried hill reservoirs in Bohai sea basin,deep-water and deep-layer oil reservoir in the Pearl River Mouth basin,deep-water and ultra-shallow natural gas reservoir in Qiongdongnan basin, shale oil in Weixinan sag of Beibu Gulf basin, and deep coalbed gas in onshore Ordos basin. These major exploration breakthroughs have led to the discovery of 4 billion-ton oilfields and 1 100-billion-square-foot gas region. In addition, the theoretical understandings mentioned above have laid a solid foundation for the establishment of an oil and gas supply guarantee center and have provided strong technical support for the exploration breakthroughs in new fields at CNOOC.Moving forward,CNOOC will further increase its exploration efforts in risky areas, adhering to problem-oriented and innovation-driven strategies.By fully promoting the coordinated development of domestic and overseas exploration,CNOOC is committed to making new and greater contributions to ensuring national energy security.
