Efficacy of constipation powder plaster combined with auricular acupressure with seed embedding in the treatment of constipation in older adult orthopedic patients
J Objective To investigate the efficacy of constipation powder plaster combined with auricular acupressure with seed embedding in the treatment of constipation in older adult orthopedic patients. Methods A randomized controlled study was conducted among 50 patients who received treatment at Chizhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2021 to August 2022.The patients were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 25 patients in each group using a random number table method. The control group received conventional interventions, including dietary adjustments, abdominal massage, and bowel habit training. The observation group was treated with a self-made constipation powder applied to acupoint patches and also received auricular acupressure with seed embedding in addition to the conventional interventions provided to the control group. The time to the first bowel movement and the incidence of abdominal distension were determined in each group.Patient satisfaction was evaluated. Results The time to the first bowel movement in the observation group was(1.68±0.69)days,which was significantly shorter than that in the control group[(4.24±0.97)days,t=10.75,P<0.05].The incidence of abdominal distension in the observation group was 12.0%(3/25),which was significantly lower than that in the control group[72.0%(18/25),x2=18.47,P<0.001].Patient satisfaction in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(Z=-3.38,P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of constipation powder plaster and auricular acupressure with seed embedding is effective in treating constipation in older adult orthopedic patients. This approach improves bowel regularity, promotes autonomous bowel movement, reduces the incidence of abdominal distension, and enhances patient satisfaction.
